The Gym Dandys set cartwheel world record with Gabby Douglas

Girls from 14 Pittsburgh gymnastic clubs got together with gold medalist Gabrielle Douglas on the Roberto Clemente Bridge and set a new a world record for most simultaneous cartwheels on Monday, June 23, 2014. The previous world record was 482 simultaneous cartwheels and was set five years earlier in the Netherlands.

Gabby Douglas, a gold medalist in the Summer Olympics two years previous, was in town to promote the 2014 USA Gymnastics national championships at Consol Energy Center coming in August. “It means so much to me, and to see how excited they are and see how excited they are about breaking the record and doing cartwheels,” Douglas said. “It’s all about having fun, so I’m super excited.”

The girls finished with a total of 735 cartwheels. That number must be verified by the Guinness Book of World Records before it becomes official.
